They were very well organised and worked diligently throughout the build. In 2020 we contracted Swift Build to undertake a variety of works at our cottage including a one-bedroom rear extension, rebuilding of our front porch, creation of an open-plan kitchen/dining room, installation of new staircase and extensive external ground works, with new driveway and garden path.

Swift Build came recommended from a friend and we had high hopes for the realising of the alterations that we had planned. Through the dedicated and diligent work of Geoff and the team, our hopes were not only met but enhanced and exceeded.

Throughout the whole process, the team have been friendly, courteous and supportive of our plans and vision for the project. The original part of our cottage dates from approximately 1650, however the practicalities of working on a historic property proved no problem and the team took any considerations in their stride, sensitively responding to the existing features and providing tailored additions to enhance the house.

Every one of the select group of sub-contractors involved on the project were friendly, considerate and very happy to discuss or explain the different aspect their work involved. We were so impressed by the wider team and the pragmatic and dedicated work ethic they brought to each stage of the works.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the timing of the works proved an additional unforeseen challenge for the project. In spite of the difficulties of obtaining materials during a turbulent and uncertain period, Geoff and the team were attentive to complete any work in as efficient as manner possible within the context of changing and evolving restrictions. Throughout the whole process, the team always made our safety the first priority, always ensuring that we were comfortable with the scheduled work and minimising the number of people on site at any given time to ensure social distancing.

We are just thrilled with the results of the project and the level of care taken to realise our aspirations. We have always cherished our home, and through the attentive work of Swift Build we have been able to develop every part of the property to its maximum potential, providing us with the perfect environment to start a family. We would definitely recommend Geoff and the team, and would not hesitate to call on them again, as and when we require any further works in the future!

Firstly, the removal of a wall in our living room, the laying of new flooring, and the insulating of our remaining walls and plastering was done quickly, effectively and with far less dust then we had expected! We then had them back to completely reconfigure our bathroom, again involving moving a wall, which was carried out superbly. Lastly, they have completely redone our kitchen from floor to ceiling – removing everything to do with the old kitchen and installing a brand new one. In the process, they also reconfigured a window box and installed new windows. All these were carried out brilliantly.

"We contracted Swift Building in 2016 to build a single storey extension to our mid terrace Victorian house in Milford St in Cambridge. Their price appeared to competitive and had been based on a set of outline drawings and structural details provided by our design consultants and we knew them by reputation which is always a good start.

Our house is quite near the centre of Cambridge which presented certain logistical issues like lack of parking spaces and the cost of skips. However, Geoff Argent and his sons Dan and Ben overcame the daily challenge of parking near to the house and always arrived on site with a smile.

One of the main issues that Swift were very flexible over was the timing of the work. We had to delay the build start because the simple drainage scheme took about a year longer to complete than we expected. This delay must have been inconvenient to Swift but they did not appear to be phased by it and kept to the re-scheduled start date.

The quality of their work is outstanding. Part of the project was the building of a perimeter wall round the small courtyard garden and the brick laying by Swift is exceptionally good. They came up with a design for capping the wall which saved a lot of money and this was a feature of their work throughout the build. Apart from brickwork, the plaster finish and quality of fit out with plumbing, electrics and flooring was very high.

The Swift team solved all sorts of problems that popped up with no warning, as is the case with most old houses. We had a crumbling brick outhouse at the back of the house which needed to come down but this was attached to the neighbours’ outhouse. The neighbours did not want to disturb their outhouse, which was in very poor condition and Swift carried out underpinning and separation from the adjoining property in a very careful and expert manner. They also solved a damp problem we had had for some time and improved the insulation of the Victorian single skin walls by adding interior high efficiency insulation on the inside, only adding about 30mm to the walls but which made a huge difference to the warmth of the house.

Geoff Argent sent us photographs every week to show progress which was enormously reassuring as we were not in Cambridge for the build period. This aspect of keeping the customer informed about issues and requesting small design decisions well ahead of time made our job as clients very easy and we thank the team for that.

Apart from some extra work that we asked to be done, Swift kept to the quoted price for the work, so we are very happy to endorse them as reputable, reliable and quality builders. We have no hesitation in recommending them for building projects in the Cambridge area."
